National Car Test (NCT)

Here at Carolan Motors we want to make sure your car is safe to drive on the road and that it passes the NCT with flying colours. Our staff are highly experienced in this field and will make sure your car is to the highest standard.

National Car Test

The test looks at:

Brakes
Exhaust emissions
Wheels and tyres
Lights
Steering and suspension
Chassis and underbody
Electrical systems
Glass and mirrors
Transmission
Interior
Fuel system

The NCTS recommends that you prepare for the test by ensuring that:

Your car has adequate oil and water
The boot is empty and seats are clear of personal belongings such as removable baby seats
Your glove compartment is unlocked and clear of personal belongings (allow for OBD testing)
Any devices using the OBD port in the vehicle are removed in advance
The vehicle is reasonably clean (especially the underbody)
The wheel hubcaps are removed and the tyres are inflated to the correct pressure
Seat belts and clips are fully visible
Your vehicle registration plates comply with current regulations
The timing belt has been replaced in a diesel vehicle within the timeframe specified by the vehicle manufacturer
Your lights have been checked and set prior to the test.

What is the purpose of the NCT?

The NCT helps reduce road accidents and injuries so it is important to have it done. The whole idea is to ensure that all the cars on our roads are safe and roadworthy. With our pre-NCT test your car will pass. A fully regulated car runs smoothly, is safer and reduces fuel costs and emmissions.
